What is BaZi?

BaZi (also called Four Pillars of Destiny or 八字) is a Chinese system for reading character and timing from your birth date and time. It uses four Pillars - Year, Month, Day, and Hour - each containing two symbols, to produce a detailed map of your personality, strengths, blind spots, and how different periods of your life tend to feel.

What do I need to get started?

Your date of birth, your approximate time of birth, and your place of birth. The more precise your birth time, the more accurate your Hour Pillar. If you do not know your exact birth time, you can still get a reading, but the Hour Pillar will be less precise.

What can I ask about?

Anything that relates to your chart and your life. Career and work patterns. Money and financial timing. Relationship dynamics. Stress and energy. The current cycle you are in and what it tends to reward. Start with whatever is most pressing right now.

How many questions do I get?

New accounts start with 10 free questions. After that, you can purchase additional question credits. Credits do not expire.

What happens when I run out of questions?

You can top up your credits from the account menu. Tap your name in the app, then select Buy Credits to see the available options.

Can I get a refund?

No. All credit purchases are final. We offer 10 free questions before any purchase so you can experience the service firsthand before committing.

Is BaZi the same as Western astrology?

No. They are completely different systems built on different principles. Western astrology tracks planetary positions relative to Earth. BaZi uses the Chinese calendar and the Five Elements system. They do not translate to each other and are not compatible.

Can BaZi predict the future?

No. BaZi describes patterns and tendencies, not events. It can show you which periods of your life tend to be active, which tend to consolidate, and what kinds of pressures or opportunities each period brings. What you do with that information is your decision.

How accurate is the Hour Pillar?

We calculate the Hour Pillar using true solar time at your birthplace, not the clock time on your birth certificate. This is how classical BaZi works. Most digital tools use civil time, which introduces error for people born near timezone boundaries or near midnight. Our calculation uses NASA/JPL Horizons data for precise solar longitude positioning.

What is a Day Master?

Your Day Master is the first Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar. It is considered the most important character in your chart. It represents your core identity and the lens through which your entire chart is read.

What language can I use?

Any language. Type your question in whatever language you are most comfortable in. The system responds in the same language.

Is my information private?

Your birth details and conversations are used only to generate your reading. We do not sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

What is a Luck Pillar?

A Luck Pillar is a ten-year cycle that changes throughout your life. It represents the quality and character of the period you are currently moving through. It is not who you are permanently. It is the season you are in right now, and different seasons reward different things.

What are the Ten Influencers?

The Ten Influencers are ten character types present in every BaZi chart. Their traditional names are Friend Star, Rob Wealth, Eating God, Hurting Officer, Direct Wealth, Indirect Wealth, Direct Officer, Seven Killings, Direct Resource, and Indirect Resource. MyFivePillars uses plain-English names: Companion, Challenger, Creator, Disruptor, Investor, Opportunist, Leader, Warrior, Mentor, and Strategist. Every chart contains all ten, but some are strong and some are barely present. Your unique mix defines your character.
